Hi folks,
So out of nowhere yesterday, my 4TB WD Elements SE external hard drive stopped working. It won't mount at all. I think I've tried every 'solution' online but to no avail. Posting some screenshots of what my MacBook Pro is telling me about the drive along with some additional info. I've got some important files on this hard drive that are not backed up anywhere else.
First off:
MacBook Pro 2015 model, retina 15-inch, running macOS Mojave 10.14.5
Imac File System Check Exit Code Is 8
WD Elements SE 4TB drive, about 8 months old. From memory the drive was about 3.5TB full.
- The drive once plugged in via USB shows up greyed out in Disk Utility, but nowhere else. It initially displays my drive name 'Shane-Drive' but once I click 'Mount' in Disk Utility, the name switches to 'disk2s2'. You'll see from the screenshot that the error seems to be 'file system check exit code is 8'
2) I have followed the instructions for approaches using First Aid multiple times, Safe Mode, Recovery Mode, and Single User Command Line ( /sbin/fsck -fy command), again with no luck.
3) I downloaded the program ddrescue and ran it from Terminal, but it didn't manage to copy even a single block from my hard drive. I followed these instructions: https://www.macobserver.com/tips/how-to/install-ddrescue-mac/
4) Earlier, I noticed in Console that there was a continuous I/O fault, but that has now been replaced by this: https://imgur.com/a/RZcUGpX
Make usb bootable other partition. 5) Right now, this is how everything looks in Disk Utility: https://imgur.com/a/GhLcaTL (4 images)
6) The connectors and cables look okay to me, and I have switched out the cable for another WD drive cable that I have (for another WD Hard drive). The other hard drive is working fine with either cable.
7) I've tried this drive in my old MacBook (2009 model), and on a Windows laptop, but that hasn't gotten me anywhere.
8) I did come across this article about SATA bridge cards, any advice regarding whether or not I should look down this avenue would be welcome (this seems a step beyond what I'm able for!)
Apple File System Check Exit Code Is 8
9) I am also wondering if you would recommend buying a hard drive dock like this one as a potential DIY solution?
I've just posted this over in r/techsupport, I hope that's not a problem.
Thanks in advance for your help & input!

Unable to mount external hard drive on Mac, getting this when running first aid:
I had to shut down my computer because it froze, potentially because I used all the disk space and kept writing to it, but I'm not sure.
I don't have any backups or anything.
Basically wondering what my options are, wondering what I am todo. If there is a way to recover the data from it and/or fix the drive.
Update. Yay, just got this message. But still don't know what to do.

I would not suggest to repair this drive with a 3rd party software rather recover the data using a data recovery software. The data is very much contained however the directory seems to be failing. Try Stellar or Data Rescue, both can help you recover your data.Erase the unmounted drive with a new filesystem via Disk Utility but only when you have recovered your files.

Today, I plugged in my Seagate Freeagent Go external hard drive to back up some pictures to it. When I went to plug it in, the hard drive lights up, but isn't read by 'Finder'. I just did a backup of my pictures three days ago, but I have been deleting the pictures after I back up the pictures onto the hard drive.
I opened up Disk Utility, and the hard drive shows in there. I tried doing a 'Verify Disk' and it gave me the 'File System Check Exit Code 8' and told me to repair the disk. I tried repairing the disk, but it said that it could not be repaired.
Is there anything else I can do to fix this?

Hi GJ. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.
Rather than spending too much more time fiddling I'd simply Clean Reinstall the printer/scanner which always works, lasts longer and actually saves time:
1) Power up the scanner, if wired unplug it's USB cable from PC.
2) Go to Settings>Apps>Apps and Features to find and Uninstall the scanner software.
3) Use one of these methods to remove all of the old drivers:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/101274-unin..
4) Now type Control Panel in Start Search, open CP, choose Icon View. In Control Panel open Devices and Printers, right click the scanner to delete the Printer and any scanner or fax of the same name. Restart PC.
5) Go to the model’s Support Downloads webpage to download and install the latest full software package. Now is also the time to check for any newer printer firmware to install which matters a lot.
Older software may need to be installed in Compatibility Mode to run correctly: https://www.groovypost.com/howto/run-old-softwa..
6) Extract software, right click Setup file to Run as Administrator. Follow the setup screens closely as you install the software. For USB it should prompt when to plug in the printer.
If you have further problems reply back with results of each step.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
